“Not just a candle”

Despite growing discussions about mental health, 40% of men still experience fear when it comes to expressing their mental health concerns. Speaking openly about their struggles is not always their preferred approach, which is why BEMAN Candles has developed a toolkit specifically designed for men. This toolkit enables individuals to engage in self-reflection and acquire the necessary skills to communicate their feelings, either independently or with their loved ones. 

The founder of BEMAN Candles, Ricki Takooree, understands the challenges associated with mental health and the accompanying stigma that men often face. At the age of 18, Ricki was diagnosed with Alopecia resulting from depression. As an adult, he has encountered typical issues that men often face such as balancing work, family, and personal well-being. Throughout these experiences, Ricki developed a unique method to deal with issues such as these. By lighting a candle, contemplating his problems, generating solutions, and only then, blowing out the flame, he discovered an effective way to self-reflect. This method served as the origins of BEMAN Candles. 

Introducing not just a luxury candle for men but a new meaning to the term “wellness candle”, BEMAN Candles aims to equip individuals with the necessary skills for personal development and mental well-being. Often reviewed by customers as ‘not just a candle…’ each BEMAN candle comes with a QR code that provides access to a guided video and worksheet linked to the chosen wellness topic of your choice. The ultimate goal is to enhance clarity, focus, motivation, and fulfilment, enabling individuals to accomplish their personal wellness objectives. By creating a designated space for self-reflection, the process of lighting the candle and engaging in a guided wellness topic facilitates enhanced self-awareness and the ability to gain inner-confidence when speaking to loved ones or other individuals about one’s own struggles.  

BEMAN Candles has already started to gain recognistion within the UK candle industry, as well as the health and wellbeing industry. Ricki has started to win awards such as Best Artisan Candle Producer 2023 & The Entrepreneurs Rising Star Award 2023. Ricki is also a finalist for the Great British Entrepreneur Awards (GBEA) later this year. GBEA was described as the “Grammys of Entrepreneurship,” by Dragon and former GBEA winner Steven Bartlett.
